The City of Barrie

Glowing Hearts Charity provides fresh produce to low-income families in March, July, August, and December, when access to food is a greater challenge due to school closures for holidays by purchasing boxes through the four Good Food Box partners around Simcoe County. These non-profits are able to purchase produce in bulk in order to offer a healthy and varied selection at significantly reduced prices. We then arrange for delivery if families don’t have access to transportation.

These food boxes contain high-quality fruits and vegetables, which are often not available through food banks, and because anyone can purchase these, people are able to maintain their sense of dignity and there is no stigma associated with receiving a food box. Each box costs $20, but the value is often worth well over double this price at retail. 

We currently serve 182 families in need around Simcoe County, which represents 879 people within those households, and our list of families in need continues to grow.
