Healthcare Access

Sadly, the pandemic and skyrocketing costs of living have fueled the crisis of homeless and inadequately housed older adults. As a result, seniors are at an increasingly high risk of eviction due to a lack of age-specific supports –Many seniors have ongoing physical and mental health struggles that require access to healthcare. They need to know who can help them and how to access these services in order to maintain their housing. In Toronto, seniors are 60% more likely to experience chronic homelessness (experiencing homelessness for 6 months or longer). Such prolonged exposure and limited access to primary care quickens the process of aging. Homes First considers individuals 50+ years old as seniors, which translates into over 50% of our residents being 'seniors'.
