Although Canada's federal government provides infrastructure for water systems on reserves, providing education and hands-on training for individuals to maintain and be confident in their new water system is critical. Qualified Indigenous personnel are needed to fill the water operator role, and long-distance learning requires adequate technology. Together, Water First and Rotary are fundraising to help with the overall availability of the Water First programs to all communities that wish to be involved. What will be the end result? Full-time careers for Indigenous youth in their communities keeping their communities healthy and prosperous with safe, clean water, one student at a time.
